ICAP Ocean Tomo to Sell Intellectual Property Licensing Limited’s Patent Portfolio of Digital Radiation Imaging Technology

ICAP Ocean Tomo, the intellectual property brokerage division of ICAP Plc (IAP.L), is offering for sale a patent portfolio relating to digital radiation imaging technology currently owned by Intellectual Property Licensing Limited (IPL Limited). The portfolio includes over 130 issued U.S. and foreign patents and patent applications. As a development of this technology having its origins at CERN in Switzerland, the patents have been cited by companies such as GE Medical Systems, Philips Electronics, Sharp, Toshiba, and Canon.

One of the largest and most significant in its technology sector, this portfolio provides for the next generation of digital radiation imaging devices, and can be easily understood as a high-resolution digital camera on a chip that sees radiation in color. The applications of this technology reach well beyond conventional x-ray imaging because this technology offers detection, recording, and imaging radiation across a range of wavelengths. Devices using the technology will provide the user with higher resolution, faster speed, molecular imaging, and material identification while using a lower dose of radiation. The IP underpins transformative technology applying to diagnostic and therapeutic healthcare systems, dentistry, and a new baggage and container scanning system. This portfolio impacts any market that relies on either conventional x-ray or next generation digital radiation imaging including the CT, PET, and SPECT medical imaging markets, bone densitometry, the dental x-ray market, and the emerging homeland security market.

“This technology solves a critical problem in radiation imaging with far-reaching implications in medical imaging, general instrumentation, and security,” said Dean Becker of ICAP Ocean Tomo. “These patents are the next generation digital radiation imaging technology for these markets, and will fuel the growth of each market for years.”

IPL Limited’s advanced sensor technology may be used as the basis of a multi-spectral imaging system, enabling the identification of contraband material in airport baggage screening and port of entry container screening. This technology can be extended to a hand-held device to ensure protection and safety to the first responder market. Such devices have generated substantial interest from organizations devoted to nuclear detection and defense threat reduction.

“At IPL Limited, we are very proud now to be able to offer this intellectual property to the market. We believe this technology greatly extends the range of current digital imaging within the vital fields of both Healthcare and Security,” said Nick Barker, COO of IPL Limited. “Access to this portfolio will enable significantly greater speed and resolution in these vitally important areas.”
