Prior to forming SP Capital, Posner was CEO of four different software firms, including Peter Norton Computing and others, where he merged them with technology industry leaders such as Symantec, Borland and McAfee. Posner was a start-up investor and board member of Match.com, Rival Networks, Flipside.com, and Click2learn, all of which were sold to much larger corporations with his assistance.

Posner has been a limited partner in Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, New Enterprise Associates, and JP Morgan Technology Partners. He serves on the boards of other technology companies, such as eChinaCash in Beijing, and on the advisory board of Fordham Graduate Business School. Posner received a master's degree in business from Harvard Business School and a bachelor's degree in math from Rensselaer.
