The stadium previously played host to Super Bowls in 1978, 1981, 1986, 1990, 1997 and 2002. Tulane Stadium was the home stadium for the Super Bowl in 1970, 1972 and 1975 before the stadium was torn down in 1980. The Miami metropolitan area has also played host to 10 Super Bowls, five in Miami's Orange Bowl and five at Sun Life Stadium in nearby Miami Gardens.
