CivicID From Accela Allows U.S. Citizens to Interact With Multiple Government Agencies Using One Secure Identity
Single Set of Login Credentials Simplifies Identity Management for the Public and Enables Data-Sharing Among Apps

SAN RAMON, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/11/12 -- Accela, Inc., the leading provider of web-, mobile-, and cloud-based software exclusively for government, announced the introduction of CivicID. As a single, no-cost, login identity, CivicID enables individuals to easily interact with municipal government agencies across the United States via Accela websites and apps on smartphones and tablets for a multitude of reasons -- from reporting potholes and broken street lights to applying for a permit or license.

Taking into account that most individuals live, work, visit relatives, do errands, and spend leisure time in different towns within a region, the secure, trusted, and easy-to-use CivicID from Accela saves users the trouble of creating a new account each time they want to contact a different municipal government in the region. Soon any registered CivicID user will be able to use any app built on the CivicID ecosystem and downloaded from the CivicID app store. In addition, the ID integrates with social identities such as Facebook or Twitter, making it easy for individuals to register and share information with friends, family, and colleagues. Once registered, users can view and manage their profile information and permissions for apps. They can also conveniently see their activity across government agencies in one single location.

CivicID offers benefits to third-party developers, as well. App developers will have access to Accela's technical ecosystem to integrate data from multiple government agencies into their citizen-facing apps. Plus, apps built on top of the Accela mobile Software Developer Kit (SDK) and Application Program Interfaces (APIs) will be pre-integrated with the CivicID login interface, giving developers access to a large user base. All approved apps will be listed in the CivicID store, making it easy for users and agencies to discover them. In addition, cross-promotion of different developers' apps will be an option.

Accela's government-agency customers will also benefit from CivicID. They will have access to the growing ecosystem of role-targeted productivity apps and better Business Intelligence tools and analytics that will work with their unique data.

"The development of CivicID indicates that Accela is once again in the forefront of innovation for government -- this time by getting in front of the growing movement for greater government-citizen engagement," said Accela President and CEO, Maury Blackman. "As the first company to provide a comprehensive blueprint for that interaction, Accela has merged the best elements of mobile technology and social media for the benefit of both government and citizens."
