Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6503) announced six new technologies,
outlined below, at its annual Research and Development Open House held
today at its headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.
Electric Power Management System for Self-sustained Operation
Enables self-sufficient power supply for more than one week
The company announced today that it has developed a prototype
electric power management system that combines an ideal mix of
storage batteries and photovoltaic power generation for
self-sustained operation in communities during extended blackouts.
The technology was achieved through the company’s Smart Grid and
Smart Community initiative.
Energy Management System with Demand-response Capability
Stabilizes power supply & demand management while minimizing
The company announced today that it has developed the technology for
an energy management system that responds dynamically to
supply-demand conditions. The system automatically evaluates
fluctuating power-generation costs and electricity-market prices to
determine optimized incentives for saving power, thereby helping to
stabilize supply and demand management while minimizing costs and
benefits for utilities and customers alike. The technology was
achieved through the company’s Smart Grid Demonstration Project
Regenerative Power Optimization Technology for Railway Energy
Reduces total railway energy consumption by up to five percent
The company announced today its development of a new technology that
reduces total railway energy consumption by up to five percent
through efficient use of regenerative power from trains and
optimized voltage control at multiple railway substations.
Commercialization is targeted at the fiscal year beginning in April
World-leading capacity will lead to smaller, lighter equipment
The company announced today that it has developed large-capacity
silicon carbide (SiC) power module technologies incorporating
all-SiC power devices for unprecedented 1,200-volt, 1,200-ampere
performance. The new technologies, which have been incorporated in a
prototype module, are expected to expand SiC applications to factory
automation equipment, elevators, escalators, photovoltaic systems,
wind-power generation systems and other industrial uses.
World’s Best Error-correction Technology for High-capacity
The company announced today it has developed an error-correction
technology that achieves a coding gain of 12.0dB, the world’s
highest level as of February 14, 2013 according to internal
research, for high-speed and high-capacity optical communication
systems over long distances. The technology will be launched in the
fiscal year starting in April 2014.
100 Gbps Optical Transmission Technologies for High-capacity
The company announced today it has developed an optical transceiver
and integrated optical transmitter module for 100 Gbps optical
transmission per wavelength that realizes 2.5 times the capacity of
conventional intercity optical networks. The technologies, which
will help to meet fast-expanding demands for intercity communication
capacity, will be commercialized within the fiscal year ending in
