• Computer/video generator components as a segment of the global HUD market is expected to grow from $1.0 billion in 2017 to $3.0 billion in 2022 at a CAGR of 23.8% for the period 2017-2022.

Chapter 1: Introduction
Head-up displays project data, typically navigational data and augmented reality, on a transparent screen in front of the viewer's line of sight. Since the post-World War II era, HUDs (HUDs) have found broad application in the military and aerospace industries. In the defense and avionics industries, they have reached the saturation level.

Even then, the advent of augmented reality and its applications have led to a paradigm shift in the market. The report comprises of market analyses and various forecasts related to the components of HUDs and their applications. The report also highlights the features of different types of HUDs and provides an overview of their growth potential over the next five years.

Study Goals and Objectives
The goal of this report is to provide a detailed and comprehensive study of the global market for HUDs and the associated future business opportunities. The report's objectives include providing thorough coverage of the underlying business issues driving the global market for HUDs and assessing new products and those under development.

Social, political and other issues are also covered. The overall objective is to provide an up-to-date analysis of the recent developments and trends in the global HUD market. The report also identifies the significant revenue growth drivers (in specific categories) behind the market for HUDs. This study also projects the impact of internal and external forces on the current HUD market, as well as the forces that will affect the industry in the coming years.

Reasons for Doing the Study
With the advent of new projection technologies, HUDs have been experiencing remarkable growth in recent years in high-end luxury cars. The demand for cost-effective HUDs in cars are expected to increase rapidly, which will have a profound effect on the market dynamics.

Scope of Report
The scope of this report is comprehensive, covering the present status and future prospects for HUDs used in different industries in North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, South America and the rest of the world (ROW). The ROW region includes all countries in the Middle East and Africa.

The values presented in the forecast tables represent the sales (in millions of dollars) of HUDs in end-use product markets. All growth rates mentioned in the tables and the text are based on the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2017 through 2022. Estimated values are based on manufacturers' total revenues.

The market is categorized by HUD component, application and regional market. The estimated values have been derived from the total revenues of the manufacturers.
The report also has a detailed analysis of the major HUD vendors as well as corporate profiles. Projected and forecasted revenue values are in constant U.S. dollars, unadjusted for inflation.

Information Sources
The research methodology adopted for this report is qualitative in nature. A triangulation approach was also employed to increase validity. After an initial comprehensive and exhaustive search of the literature on HUD was conducted, secondary sources, including journals and related books, trade and marketing literature, other product literature, annual reports, security analyst reports, and information from trade associations and other publications, were used to gather additional information on HUDs.

In the second phase, a series of semi-structured interviews were conducted with marketing executives, engineers, business unit managers, and other personnel at companies involved in the HUD arena. Other sources included academics, systems integrators, technology and materials suppliers, technical experts, trade association officials, government officials and consultancies. These sources provided a rich source of data. Subsequent analysis of the documents and interview notes was iterative.

Chapter 2: Summary and Highlights
HUDs were invented in the 1940s and first appeared in military aircraft. The first introduction of HUDs in commercial aircraft was in 1970s. Since then, they have been prevalent in other commercial sectors as well. HUDs first appeared in cars in 1988, and lately they have been getting more attention from automobile original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), as well as customers.

However, it is only in the last few years that HUDs can be said to have truly penetrated the automotive sector. HUDs used to be standalone systems, but many suppliers are now combining them with infotainment systems and instrument clusters. The growth in the luxury car and sports car market and an increase in the avionics segment (where each aircraft requires an HUD) are the major drivers behind the growth of the overall market for HUDs.

BCC Research projects that the global market for HUDs will grow from $2.7 billion in 2017 to $8.0 billion by 2022, at a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 24.4%.
