DreamBox Learning®, the company that pioneered Intelligent Adaptive Learning™ technology, today announced during the annual ASU+GSV Summit that it experienced topline growth of nearly 30 percent in 2017, and that its proven, award-winning, adaptive K-8 math platform is now used by a record number of students and teachers.
More than 2.6 million students used the platform in 2017, nearly 80 times the number of students who used the platform in 2011, the first full year the company entered the school market. DreamBox also delivered more than 350 million lessons, while partnering with more than 120,000 teachers during the calendar year.
This growth stems from DreamBox’s effectiveness for improving student learning. In addition to being the only digital elementary math solution with an Evidence Rating of “Strong” at EvidenceForESSA.org curated by Johns Hopkins University, a recent analysis of nearly 8,000 students in grades 1-7 showed that students completing just five DreamBox lessons per week experienced double the growth of their peers on the Renaissance Star assessment. The platform was recently recognized by EdTech Digest as the winner of its EdTech Awards math solution category and an adaptive technology solution finalist.
“The impressive growth we’ve seen confirms that educators and students alike have been hungry for a fun, adaptive and – most importantly – highly effective way to learn math,” said Jessie Woolley-Wilson, DreamBox president and CEO. “With the support of DreamBox, student achievement is on the rise, teacher capacity is growing, and schools, administrators, and teachers across North America are seeing how high-impact adaptive learning technologies can positively transform learning outcomes.”
As DreamBox focuses its efforts on becoming an essential solution used in every classroom, adding strategic partnerships, and shaping broader education policy, the company promoted Senior Vice President of Learning Dr. Tim Hudson to Chief Learning Officer (CLO). Dr. Hudson will be responsible for leading DreamBox’s efforts in several key areas including policy, curriculum, professional development, and learning impact assessment. He will also track, analyze and interpret developments in learning science across the K-12 industry, as well as in the private sector.
“We’re pleased to elevate Tim’s role to CLO and leverage his deep expertise in learning and curriculum. This new role reflects Tim’s enormous impact on our growing business as well as the importance that we place on anchoring our technology innovations in the science of learning,” Woolley-Wilson said. “Tim’s new responsibilities will be invaluable to us as we determine how to integrate the best and newest understandings of how learning happens optimally into our ever-evolving platform and math learning solution.”
Hudson and Woolley-Wilson will each be speaking at this year’s ASU+GSV Summit. Hudson will give a company presentation today and Woolley-Wilson will speak with former U.S. Secretary of Education and current Managing Partner at Emerson Collective, Arne Duncan, during a Wednesday keynote.
Independent studies from both the Center for Education Policy Research (CEPR) at Harvard University and SRI have found that DreamBox Learning K-8 Math improves student achievement as measured by NWEA MAP Growth.
