Mellanox and GigaSpaces Accelerate Transaction Performance for Financial Applications

Mellanox® Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ:MLNX)(TASE:MLNX), a leading supplier of end-to-end connectivity solutions for data center servers and storage, and GigaSpaces Technologies, a leading provider of a new generation of application platforms for Java and .Net environments, today announced that the two companies have teamed to provide accelerated transaction solutions for financial applications in mission critical environments. Demonstrations conducted by the two companies revealed a performance increase of up to 40 percent when using Mellanox ConnectX® 40Gb/s InfiniBand and 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapters and GigaSpaces eXtreme Application Platform (XAP).

“To meet the tough requirements of our financial services user base, GigaSpaces XAP delivers the highest transaction processing performance for demanding applications under any circumstance,” said Shay Hassidim, deputy chief technology officer at GigaSpaces. By teaming GigaSpaces XAP with Mellanox’s data center connectivity solutions, financial service industry end users will experience unprecedented performance and scalability. This will lead to faster data access and sharing, both of which are critical for business success.”

Using this joint solution, financial service enterprises will be able to push data reliably and significantly faster over the network, resulting in shorter transaction time and no data loss in case of failure. Sending an order from the trader’s desk application to the order management server can now occur more rapidly due to the low latency realized from the Gigaspaces XAP and Mellanox collaboration. For example, the combined solution demonstrated a transaction latency of 0.4 millisecond, including synchronous data replication to a backup server. This was measured with 4K objects under very high load, namely more than 8,000 transactions per second.

Mellanox ConnectX adapters include the breakthrough Virtual Protocol Interconnect™ (VPI) technology which enables seamless connectivity to 40Gb/s InfiniBand and 10 Gigabit Ethernet connections within the same adapter. VPI enables I/O infrastructure flexibility and future-proofing for data centers and high-performance computing environments. VPI-enabled ConnectX adapters facilitate any standard networking, clustering, storage, and management protocol to seamlessly operate over any converged network with the same software infrastructure.

“ConnectX VPI adapters provide leading server and storage I/O performance with flexibility to support the myriad of communication protocols and network fabrics over a single device, and without sacrificing functionality when consolidating I/O,” said Wayne Augsburger, vice president of business development at Mellanox Technologies. “This demonstration with GigaSpaces proves once again that Mellanox VPI-based connectivity solutions add new levels of performance in demanding data center environments.”

GigaSpaces XAP is a next-generation application server built for today's most demanding enterprise and Web applications. Unlike traditional application servers, GigaSpaces XAP enables predictable application scalability on-demand. XAP allows businesses and developers to predictably scale systems under any peak demand, guarantee performance under any data processing load, and seamlessly leverage the economies-of-scale offered by virtual computing environments such as clouds and grids.
